A Snowtober Halloween

Finally!! The power is on and the internet is running...now, let's get to the Halloween recap... Friday kicked off the weekend with a Halloween party at Ava's school. I came in to organize the games and of course a food craft! They started off with a parade to show off their costumes (mine is the fairy on left) Next, I joined them for circle time : )

Then the party started with crafts,"Boo Bowling" "Candy Toss" and "Graveyard Dirt!!" I had each kid make individual cups of "dirt" with pudding,Oreo's,gummy worms and pretzels for the "bones" total sugar overload but it was fun!!

We all had a lot of fun and then the rumors started about "a major snow storm" heading this way...dun dun dun...I didn't pay too much attention to it, I mean really how often do you see snow in OCTOBER!? Saturday morning I awoke to this...

At one point I went outside to check on our outdoor cat and it sounded like gunshots, trees were snapping everywhere! the lights flickered throughout the day and around 3:30pm it was lights out. We lost power along with 10,000 other homes. I had a whole weekend of fun meals planned and the got ruined by the storm : (  We headed to dinner in hopes that the power would be restored when we got back and we were quite disappointed when we returned. The kids were more upset about the absence of TV. We layered up and headed to bed. The kids were actually hot but I froze all night! Then again, i'm always cold...no joke, I have two pairs of socks on right now and we have heat now!

Sunday morning still no power and a call to the electric company reveals a lot of trees are down and we might be looking at Tuesday for power to be restored.Ok, now I'm sad/pissed and hubby and I packed up and headed to my moms. I can battle the cold and I can battle no power but I need hot water and I need a working kitchen!! We spent the day out and returned at 4pm to start packing the refrigerated food in snow (great tip on storing food and not having to buy ice!) to our surprise the power was back!! still flickering, but back...internet and cable was out of the question...

Unfortunatly, we already had dinner so the kids and I decided we would make today our "All Hallow's Eve Replay" We dressed up and watched Halloween movies, ate too much candy and for dinner I made "Oozing Eyeballs" bloody of course...and "Maggot Cassserole" nothing new but easy and the fun names made it fun to eat.

The eyeballs were made with lean ground beef, oats, garlic powder, salt and onion powder. I stuffed each one with a piece of Mozzarella cheese and baked them till cooked through. I used a large piece of cheese so it would ooze out! I let them simmer in my homemade sauce : )

and for the "Maggot Casserole" nothing but spaghetti broken into small pieces and cooked with a garlic cream sauce and of course I had to add a fungus (sauteed mushrooms) and baked it all in the oven with Parmesan Cheese on top till crunchy.

I am such a sucker for Halloween and having kids is the perfect excuse to go all out, I hope you all were able to do the same!
